Valerie Varda was born in 1941 in Budapest, Hungary. She is an actress, known for Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation (1962), Guerillas in Pink Lace (1964) and A New Kind of Love (1963). She was married to attorney Erwin Sobel until his death in 1996. After her 18 year old son died of a brain tumor in 1995, she created the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation "to help parents of gravely ill and dying children be with their offspring and not worry about financial ruin." She began using the 10 million dollars she inherited from her husband's death for this charity which is still thriving today:
