Short Biography
Joanna Bennett is an Actor and a Sign Language Interpreter. She often combines both talents by signing on stage during a spoken production or by using her voice next to Deaf performers. In 2005, Jo performed at the Panara Theater in Rochester, New York where she was voicing for Titania in Midsummer Nights' Dream in their sign language production of the Shakespeare classic. She has interpreted performances in Toronto at Canstage, Theatre Direct, Lorraine Kimsa, Soulpepper, Talk is Free Theater and Shakespeare in the Rough. In conjunction with her TV/film work, Jo helped create "Eyes on Camera!" to foster and promote Deaf talent on the screen. In 2006, she will produce and perform in "ASL Showcase", a revue-style show incorporating many Deaf and hearing actors using sign, spoken English, dance and mime. Jo is a Councillor for the Toronto branch of ACTRA.
