Short Biography
Alexis Jones is a thought leader for the 21st century women’s movement and an expert on Generation Y. Alexis is a native Texan, the founder of the non-profit I AM THAT GIRL, and is an internationally recognized speaker, media personality, and activist.Alexis is an All American, Southern Bell, Texas tomboy. She grew up in Austin (with four older brothers and a baby sister) and moved to Los Angeles where she completed her Undergraduate degree in International Relations and a Masters in Communication Management, both from the University of Southern California.Alexis discovered her passion for inspiring girls and women after starring in The Vagina Monologues, a progressive women’s play, written by Eve Ensler. Following that role she hosted a TV show on the Red Carpet for three years, worked at Fox Sports, ESPN, was a contestant on the hit CBS reality TV show: Survivor and was cast as a life coach for the MTV show: MADE.Leveraging her Entertainment background as a platform, Alexis founded the girl empowerment non-profit, I AM THAT GIRL (501c3) with her best friend/co-founder, Emily Greener. I AM THAT GIRL is a global movement inspiring girls to love themselves unconditionally through education, content, and community.After meeting the First Lady Michelle Obama and being invited to the White House to discuss a Healthy Media initiative, Alexis continues to trailblaze the women’s empowerment space with a savvy, inspiring, 21st century twist. Alexis has spent the last five years speaking to over 250, 000 girls in person and millions of girls on-line regarding self-esteem, bullying, leadership, activism, social entrepreneurism, and all things GIRL. Her passion for entertainment and storytelling mixed with her passion for inspiring girls has made her THE face of girl empowerment, allowing her to focus on doing “media projects that matter.” Alexis just announced she will be hosting her “dream show” (an new interview series) in 2014 and the project is currently in development.Alexis has been featured as one of AOL’s MAKERS Video Series along with Oprah Winfrey, Hilary Clinton, Ellen and Sheryl Sandberg.
