Despite having little prior connection with the cinema, or with the British Film Institute, he was made editor of the long-established film magazine "Sight And Sound" (published by the BFI) in 1991. He replaced the veteran critic Penelope Houston, who had edited the magazine since 1956, as part of the "new broom" policy at the BFI, following a government report into the Institute.Philip Dodd is a producer, known for A Perfect Carry On (1998), The 100 Greatest TV Ads (2000) and Hanging Around (1996).
