Ruth Ann Mayer

Short Biography

Ruth Ann was born November 6, 1925 in Franklin, Ohio. She graduated from Franklin High School and attended the University of Michigan where she met her husband, Dave Strack. They lived briefly in East Lansing, Michigan before returning to Ann Arbor where they lived and raised their family. Ruth Ann was an active mother, volunteer and supporter of Michigan sports, especially of Dave’s basketball teams.In 1972 Ruth Ann and Dave moved to Tucson, Arizona where Dave had taken a job as the athletic director at the University of Arizona. In Tucson Ruth Ann continued volunteering and returned to college to complete her long delayed undergraduate degree. She discovered a love of the desert and delighted in learning more about the Arizona environment. When Dave retired from the university in 1989 they moved to Prescott, Arizona, where they spent 18 years as active members of that community. Ruth Ann perfected her quilting skills while in Prescott, creating many beautiful quilts. In 2006 they moved back to Tucson to be closer to family.Ruth Ann is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dave Strack, five children (Sally (Scott) McElroy, Julie (David) DeWitt, Dave (Andrea) Strack, Lucy (Dave) Singer and Amy, (Vic) Casebolt), 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren
