Valeka J. Holt

Short Biography

Affectionately known as "V", Valeka J. Holt is an award winning actress and owner of V Studios; a boutique acting conservatory specializing in One-on-One Coaching, Audition Prep, Shakespeare, Sensory Development and Psycho-Physical History Techniques.Valeka also serves as an educator, teaching Shakespeare at the internationally recognized Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world's largest Shakespeare collection and other major bodies of renaissance works of art. She is also a professor at Montgomery College.In December of 2013 Valeka was nominated for a Maryland Theatre Guides Critics Choice Award for her role as Piper Quince and First Fairy in Shakespeare's: "A Midsummer Night's Dream." In 2015 Valeka received the Best Actress performance award for her role as Nina in Sunset Baby.Valeka has performed with numerous theatre companies: The Kennedy Center, The Signature Theatre Company, The African Continuum Theatre Company, Will Geer Theatricum, Annapolis Shakespeare Company, Center Stage, Round House Theatre, The Hansberry Project at ACT Theatre, Discovery Theatre, Washington Women in Theatre, Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute, The Source Festival , Rep Stage, and Studio Theatre 2nd Stage.Valeka has served as guest speaker at The Sankofa Education Alliance, Black Theatre Symposium and the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. She has written for the Ngoma Reader, and is a contributing writer to The Art Lives Here publication.Valeka graduated from Norfolk State University with a degree in Classical Literature and Theatre Performance, and holds a Master's of Fine Arts in Acting from The University of Washington in Seattle.She is married to her love, drummer extraordinaire Jason Blacksourdough Holt.
