Short Biography

Gisella Pagano, TV director and painter, was born in Milan and graduated at the School of Fine Arts in Brera (Italy), studying with Masters Annigoni and Purificato. From 1970 to 1972 she arranged some one-man shows in Lugano, Berlin, Lubian, Rome. From that time on she devoted herself exclusively to direction and TV production, also following Purificato’s suggestion, that she met again as art-director and teacher at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. Within her new career, she co-operated with RAI, the Italian State TV, with Istituto Luce, Enea, but she also worked for foreign broadcasts in Switzerland, ex-Jugoslavia and Greece. Together with Achille Bonito Oliva, she carried out two documentary films: the first one about Carlo Carra’s life , the second one concerning the Macchiaioli artistic movement. At the Art Festival, taking place at the Boubour in Paris in 1987, she was finally awarded the “silver palm”. During her thirty-year career, she has always strongly believed to “brush” the images she filmed, just as if they were pictures, “masterpieces” fixed on the frame and expressing all the traditions, manners, stories and sufferings of all the peoples she met travelling around the world.
