HOMER HARGRAVE, BROKER, IS DEADSpecial to The New York TimesFEB. 4, 1964 CHICAGO, Feb. 3—Homer P. Hargrave, vice president and director in charge of the Chicago office of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, died today in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was on vacation. He was 68 years old.His widow is the former Colleen Moore. a star of the silent film era. Mrs. Hargrave is the owner of the famous dollhouse, which was built for $500.000 and is on exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry.Mr. Hargrave was a nationally known stockbroker who held a number of important positions regulating stock exchanges in the Middle West. He started his business career in 1919 when he joined the firm of William H. Colvin. This firm was merged with E. A. Pierce & Co. in 1926.In 1940 the Pierce company was part of the merger that formed what is now the present company. At that time Mr. Hargrave was appointed a general manager.When the present firm was incorporated in 1939. Mr. Hargrave became a vice president and director.He was chairman of the Chicago Stock Exchange from 1947 to 1949 and chairman of the Midwest Stock Exchange from 1949 to 1953.He was director of the Chicago Board of Trade from 1943 to 1951 and vice president of the Board of Trade from 1949 to 1951.Surviving besides his widow, whom he married in 1937, are two children from a previous marriage. Homer P. Hargrave Jr. and Mrs. Judith Coleman, and five grandchildren. His first wife, Mrs. Leah Loso Hargrave, died in 1933.
