El Fares turned professional with Cofidis in 2008, and simultaneously won the Tour de Wallonie, and a stage in the Tirreno–Adriatico. El Fares signed with Team Type 1-Sanofi for the 2012 season. before moving to Sojasun for the 2013 season.
