J. Xavier Velasco was born on June 3, 1979 in Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico as José Xavier Velasco Vargas. He is a director and writer, known for Sweet Lola (2002), Juan y la Borrega (2011) and Heights Dweller (2009).J. Xavier Velasco is an award-winning Mexican director, writer and producer currently living in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated with a Bachelor of Physics Degree before becoming a full time filmmaker. Velasco’s short film Juan & La Borrega (2011) screened at more than thirty international film festivals like AFI Fest and Cannes Short Film Corner, it also got a Mexican Academy Ariel Award nomination for best short fiction film. Velasco produced the independent feature film Mi America (currently in post-production) written and directed by Robert Fontaine, executive produced by Rick Porras and shot Upstate NY. He is currently working on several film projects, including his first feature film inspired by his widely acclaimed short film g. (2010).
