Set the stage with big, impressive visuals, then let the images speak for themselves. A darker, mature aesthetic pervades his better-known works, like his award winning spot for Landmine Awareness and the hard-hitting cinema commercials for the National Defense of Canada. Some have commented on the gritty realism of his imagery, even puzzled over it to the point of sometimes confusing it with actual reportage footage. Others are captivated by the haunting, cinematic edge of these tense and dramatic works.It's not surprising to learn that David is man of experience in both the film and media worlds. His career began in England, where he worked as a 'Madman' for some of London's top award-winning television advertising companies. From there he moved to British Columbia, Canada where he freelanced in writing and production design. After studying directing for camera at the Vancouver Film School and long nights editing music videos, it wasn't long before he found himself behind the lens as a sought-after Director/Cinematographer. He began writing and directing short documentaries, and during 2002 he returned to his homeland to direct and shoot a documentary on Irelands most famous Saint.His cinematography on 2005's National Film Board of Canada's 'Hardwood' helped pave the way to that film's Academy Award nomination, and in 2006 his aesthetic contributions as Director of Photography for 'Aruba' helped earn it a place at the prestigious Sundance film festival. David has directed dramas and documentaries for the SyFy Channel, Investigation Discovery and the Military History Channel. He has recently finished work on his first feature film for Sony Pictures Entertainment and is currently in development with two more features, a tense and violent drama set in modern day Kentucky and an action packed cop drama set in Chicago.
