Short Biography
Juvêncio de Araújo Figueredo (Our Lady of Exile, 27 of September of 1865 - Florianópolis , 6 of April of 1927 ) was a poet symbolist Brazilian. His numerous works, among which stand out Night Shadows and Ascension, are scattered in the newspapers of the time. Enamored of the sea, of the simple things, of the beauties of the landscape of Coqueiros, neighborhood where he was born and lived.He began his life as a typographer, later collaborating in several newspapers, both in his country and in other parts of the country. Poeta mavioso, had the honor to be part of a group of beletristas, which included Cruz and Sousa , Santos Lostada , Oscar Rosas , Virgílio Várzea , Horácio de Carvalho and others. In 1904 he wrote Ascension . Soon after, he produced some unpublished works, such as May Beaches and Novenas .He was a companion and favorite friend of the great Cruz e Sousa , being part of the Catarinense Academy of Letters , where he occupied the chair of number 17. In the exercise of public functions, he was secretary of the municipality of São José , in Santa Catarina , Secretary of the Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina , in Florianópolis.He was also an indefatigable servant of the spiritism , being due to him great part of the works of diffusion in Santa Catarina.
